Christians consistently need to examine our food laws, it is common not to. There are a rare few sects which do hold to these orders and teach others to do, this is upright and commendable. Yet, many are ignorant, and inconsiderate of these commands. Making the proper choice in our walk in the Messiah’s Bride community, and examine and take into our hearts the right way.
Acts 15:13 to 19 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:
This decision by the apostles wasn’t meant to be troublesome. The word παρενοχλειν, pronounced parenoxlein, means to trouble or cause great irritation. The Apostle’s decision was never calculated to be an exacting burden, so any interpretation must account for an unconflicted mindset concerning the moral code.
Acts 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Acts 15:20 αλλα επιστειλαι αυτοις του απεχεσθαι απο των αλισγηματων των ειδωλων και της πορνειας και του πνικτου και του αιματος
But our decree is: to abstain, keep away from the pollution of the false gods and the whoredom and the strangled to death and the blood.
Acts 15:28 to 29 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things; That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.
We think this because of the Sacred Spirit and us, not to place a greater burden upon you, except this is a necessity. Always keep from pagan sacrifices and blood and strangled to death and whoredom out of watching, strengthen your good habits.
Between the two verses there are more lessons than just one verse. We must withdraw from the pollution of pagan gods, and sacrifices. We must also withdraw from things strangled and blood. Being involved in whoredom or watch it is also unacceptable. These are orders given previous to the law, and continue to be in effect. Genesis 17:1 & 35:1 pertain to pagan gods and serving them. Genesis 9:3 to 4 pertains to eating blood. Last Genesis 34:1 to 12, 39:7 to 12, and 9:20 to 25 to keeping oneself from whoredom and watching nakedness. The most concerning has to do with food the others are obvious and have other places in the New Testament we are commanded the same.
Genesis 9:3 to 4 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
Genesis 9:4 אך־בשׂר בנפשׁו דמו לא תאכלו׃
Only flesh with breath and blood you will not eat this!
The root word for life is נפשׁ and is pronounced nephesh or naphash. This word is defined as life or breathing. The English editions do not translate this acceptably, in Hebrew it includes not eating blood, something alive, and something strangled.
There are over excessive opinions of this, as many Jehovah’s Witnesses hold the view that these cannot be consumed in any fashion, however my call is grounded on the fact these things were given to not be a great burden, and the goal of God’s message is to preserve life, and the context of Genesis 9:3 & 4 speaks about meat which is eaten.
The spiritual view explained is this. We are not to be devourers of life like wolves, but as ewes and lambs. (Galatians 5:15, Matthew 10:16 to 22) So we should accept the grace of life blood, in medicinal use, as we accept Jesus’ grace. (Hebrews 9:11 to 14, Ephesians 1:7 & 2:11 to 14)
